Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 vs iPad 2

The highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that is expected to hit stores in June with a similar price tag as the base 16GB WiFi iPad 2 model ($499) has showed up in a tradeshow in Vietnam.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 brags a thinner frame than the iPad 2 as well as matches its dual-core processor. Samsung no doubt has the iPad 2 in its sights as it reportedly redesigned the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 at the eleventh hour when the iPad 2 released and they noticed its sleeker body. Just like how the Samsung Galaxy S2 is expected to go head to head with the upcoming iPhone 5, Samsung has high hopes for its Galaxy Tab 10.1

iPad 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

As can be seen from the mostly Vietnamese video clip, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is running Android 3.0 Honeycomb however there is no UI over it at this time (expected to be added in the retail version). It is put side to side with the iPad 2 where the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 appears slightly larger but at the same time thinner (although the iPad 2 does have a case on it so the difference may be negligible.

The tablets are then pitted against each other on the table as the user runs Angry Birds on both of them simultaneously. There is no obvious difference between both the iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 although the latter's wider screen proportions does make it appear a little more nicer.
Moving on we see the iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 return to the homescreen where the fluidity of the screen transition is tested. We can see that the iPad 2 seems more confident here as it responds more smoothly as the user flicks to the different homescreens on both tablets.

But that's about all we can tell from the short video. It is again important to note that this may not be the production ready Galaxy Tab 10.1 as is evident with the missing TouchWiz UI. So we may expect slightly different results with the real thing.

Have a great weekend folks.
