HTC Sensation 4G for T-Mobile

During Mobile World Congress, many of you felt that HTC had lost a step with devices like the Incredible S and the ChaCha. Well, we’ve played with the just-announced Sensation 4G for T-Mobile and it’s safe to say that the company is back to producing best-in-class products.

The HTC Sensation 4G sports a 4.3-inch 960 x 540 display and it has a 16:9 layout. What this means is that the Android-powered handset doesn’t feel too large in the hand like some other 4.3-inch devices. The curves on the design and a slightly curved screen gives you some solid viewing angles.

Leave it to HTC to provide innovation on the battery door, as the HTC Sensation 4G has a unique way of getting to the battery. You hit a little button on the bottom and you pull out the entire screen and guts of the device to get to the battery. This provides a device that doesn’t really have seams along the sides of the device and the back cover itself has built-in transmitters, which was an interesting way for the company to keep the handset thin.

Inside, you’ll find a 1.2-GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor that will provide you with nice things like full 1080p HD video recording and fast app switching. We still can’t wait to see how this compares to the NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip and we’ll have full benchmarks as soon as possible.

The HTC Sensation 4G can only get 14.4 Mbps download speeds and that’s actually pretty good, but we would have preferred the faster radio that’s in T-Mobile’s Galaxy S 4G. We talked to HTC about it and the company said it was due to power/design tradeoffs.

You can also expect an 8-megapixel camera that has a super-fast shutter virtual shutter button and a dual-LED flash, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and more. There’s also a refined version of the Sense UI (3.0) and this includes lock-screen improvements and a new video-streaming service HTC acquired from one of its recent investments.

This should be a really cool smartphone and we can’t wait for it to hit this summer.
