Nokia Tablet PC will beat iPad ?

Nokia Tablet By Christmas 2011?

Seemingly everyone is getting into the Tablet PC game, and tire company Bridgestone even showcased their 21 inch monster tablets that they use to display their electronic color ink technology recently. And while rumors in the consumer electronics and tablet markets are cheaper than a dime a dozen, sometimes you can tell when something just seems right. That is the feel we are getting about the continual rumors of Nokia releasing a tablet by the end of the year, rumors that have been going strong since late 2010.

The Street recently went as far as to name an operating system, so these “rumors” are now getting filled out nicely. The Street reported that the Nokia tablet would run on the MeeGo Linux operating system that Nokia has effectively ignored lately. Intel, AMD and Splashtop all currently employ the OS in one form or another in various devices. The Street also said that the Nokia Tablet PC may even be ready as early as fall 2011, although if Nokia can just get it out in time for Christmas and the surrounding holiday season I am sure they will be pleased.

rumor, the noise is coming from a tech analyst who has supposedly garnered his info from Nokia and some of their tech partners. But when you think about it, Nokia is a major electronics and mobile phone player, and it really would be more astounding if they announced they WERE NOT going to pursue tablets than if they made a sneak announcement of a tablet release in 2011.

But oddly enough, Nokia has actually already developed some skill in the tablet arena. The tech company’s N700, N800 and N900 could technically be called cell phones, tablets and convertibles. They have been cranking them out for years, and despite the fact that they never really caught on with the mainstream, this gives them tons more experience than some of the tablet manufacturers who already have a tablet on the market.

And MeeGo is just an educated guess as a probable OS, because of Nokia’s past support. Android or Windows Phone 7 are also likely candidates. As a matter of fact, Nokia recently announced they were discontinuing their Symbian-based mobile phones and switching to Windows Phone 7 as an OS for their future lines. A Nokia tablet by Christmas could be a reality, because, if a tire manufacturer can make a tablet, who can’t?
