The Tab definitely has the hardware to outdo iPad 2
The iPad 2 has the dual core A5 processor that’s faster and consumes the same battery life as the iPad in spite of better graphics, “HD cameras” at the front (HD 720p up to 30 fps with audio, 5x digital zoom for stills) and back (less than 1 megapixel, quite disappointing for stills), 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology and fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating, built-in speaker, microphone, Wi-Fi, and 3G (for the Wi-Fi+3G) versions. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is 0.2mm thinner than the iPad 2 (a hurried change after the iPad 2 release). It includes a 1GHz dual core processor, 10.1-inch TFT screen with 1280x800p resolution, 8mp rear-facing camera capable of 1080p HD recording @ 24fps with LED flash, 2mp front-facing camera, 16GB/32GB internal storage, Wi-Fi, 3G support on GSM networks, dual-surround speakers, 10.1 Flash support, HSPA+ 4G connectivity, etc. No HDMI and USB port though. Apple’s iPad 2 does not come with Adobe Flash.
Can Honeycomb compete iOS?
The iPad 2 has the distinct advantage of having a mature and time tested OS on board as compared to the Honeycomb OS that has some rough edges and insufficient support from Google. Apart from that iPad 2 comes with FaceTime, PhotoBooth, integrated mail, Safari, iBooks, AirPlay, Find my iPad, iPod, iTunes, Maps, YouTube, Game Center, Notes, Calendar, Contacts, and over 65,000 quality apps from the App Store. With Galaxy Tab 10.1 you get 200,000 free and paid apps on the Android Market, Google services such as Maps, Calendar, Email, etc., Readers Hub and Music Hub, Samsung Touchwiz UX for a customized user experience. As far as apps and software go, Apple is the front runner.
Both will cost the same
Pricing is the third important factor. The 16GB and 32GB versions of the Wi-Fi version tabs are priced comparably. The 16GB version will cost the same as iPad 2, while the 8.9inch Galaxy Tab will be priced at a lower $470. Samsung’s price for the LTE versions are not out yet.
Alright, you now have it all in front of you. Take your pick. Samsung is expected to release the 10.1 and 8.9 versions of Galaxy Tab in June.
