BlackBerry PlayBook with 3G coming by early April?
Tue January 18, 2011
A source at RIM described as highly reliable has told CIO that a 3G version of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet is coming as early as late March or early April. The source goes on to say an LTE PlayBook is due soon after the 3G version of the PlayBook. RIM itself has yet to announce the existence of the former device, but confirmed that a 4G WiMAX version for Sprint is coming this summer.
The source also believed RIM will hit its target release for the first PlayBook. Business orders should begin shipping in February or March. The 3G indication comes from a document from one of RIM's carrier representatives who works with AT&T, making the connection between the April 3G edition and the GSM carrier.
RIM designed the PlayBook from the start for a cellular option and may require it for direct e-mail early on. An update is likely coming to bring direct mail to the Wi-Fi tablet.
